The world of News–it’s not politicans or elections
February 18, 2008
I was just thinking about the News. Like a light bulb turning on in the middle of the darkness, I realized that political news is not news about politicians but about news readers(newscasters). It’s about what Rush Liarbaugh thinks or maybe what Keith Olbermann thinks. We don’t get pure news anymore. By the time we get it, it’s an opinion, what someone thinks. It’s what Ariana believes, what might happen and maybe what should happen. It’s no longer ‘listen to the facts and decide’. Everyone believe they have a right to use and misuse the news and information anyway they choose. It’s like the candidates running for President are really irrelevant. It’s like these talking heads are more important than those we are trying to elect or re-elect. What Rush Liarbaugh says is more important than the person we are trying select as best we can. The man or woman who will be running this country for the next four years is taking a backseat to Laura Irgram or Glen Beck or you name it. Even Barack Obama, the chosen one, seems to be at the mercy of the self-important talking heads. He is as all the other candidates victim of someone else’s P.R. News readers and paid talking heads are taking a facade of being an elected official. Like they have won an mythical election and are now running the country at their pleasure. Rather than challenging politicians, they challenge each other and fight for rating by fighting each other. Trading barbs like they themselves were running for some office. Instead of comdemning politicians, they condemn each other in the war of rating. They validate their very being by talking about each other and excluding those who should be the center of our attention, candidates. We could remove all the candidate running and all the hot air from the pseudo self-important babbling talking heads would keep on coming. The news world has taken on a life of it’s own. They are in their own little vacuum and the rest of the world has nothing to do with them. The world of make belief and fantasy that give them the illusion of importance. The Press has become a sick little joke. A caricature of it’s once powerful self. Like so many institutions that once stood proudly, it has become a victim of a changing America. A victim, like lots of others, of their own self interest.
